چکیده

Conventional methods for improving the hydrophobicity of polypropylene (PP) membranes to prevent wetting phenomena require complex pretreatment procedures in order activate surface enabling reaction with fluorosilane (FS)-based materials. This study successfully prepared PP membrane contactors enhanced through a simple single-step dip-coating method using perfluoroether-grafted silanes CO2 capture. The FS coating layer on was confirmed ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, XPS, FE-SEM, and EDS. Furthermore, evaluation absorption performance long-term stability FS-coated according variation gas flow rate (50, 100, 200, 400, 800 mL/min) superior chemical durability our those previously reported hydrophobic membranes. as-prepared expands application scope gas-liquid capture from flue coal-fired power plants.

Correlating Physicochemical Properties of Commercial Membranes with CO2 Absorption Performance in Gas-Liquid Membrane Contactor

The gas-liquid membrane contactor (GLMC) is a promising alternative gas absorption/desorption configuration for effective carbon dioxide (CO2 ) capture. The physicochemical properties of membranes may synergistically affect GLMC performances, especially during the long-term operations. In this work, commercial polypropylene (PP) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber (HF) membranes wer...

Surface modification of poly(vinylidene fluoride) hollow fibre membranes for biogas purification in a gas–liquid membrane contactor system

The wetting of hollow fibre membranes decreases the performance of the liquid-gas membrane contactor for CO2 capture in biogas upgrading. To solve this problem, in this work, a poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) hollow fibre membrane for a liquid-gas membrane contactor was coated with a superhydrophobic layer composed of a combination of hydrophobic SiO2 nanoparticles and polydimethylsiloxane (PD...

Mathematical Modeling of Carbon Dioxide Removal from the CO2/CH4 Gas Mixture Using Amines and Blend of Amines in Polypropylene: A Comparison between Hollow Fiber Membrane Contactor and Other Membranes

In this work, a mathematical model is established to describe the removal of CO2 from gaseous mixtures including CH4 and CO2 in a polypropylene hollow fiber membrane contactor in the presence of conventional absorbents such as monoethanolamine (MEA), methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), and a blend of them. Modeling was performed in axial and radial directions under the fully-wet condition for counterc...

Modeling and Simulation of CO2 Absorption Enhancement in Hollow-Fiber Membrane Contactors using CNT–Water-Based Nanofluids

Absorption of CO2 from a gas mixture containing CO2 and nitrogen by water-based CNT nanofluids in gas–liquid hollow fiber membrane contactor was modeled and solved using COMSOL Multiphysics 5.4. The model assumed partial wetting of the membrane, along with diffusion in the axial and radial directions. In addition, Brownian motion and grazing effects were both considered in the model. The main c...
